"The number of elected men in Congress consistently dominated their female counterpart since 2001 although the number of women being elected has risen from 2004 to 2016. Compared to the previous years, women had the highest percentage of elected members in the Senate in 2013 and House of Representatives in 2016, that is, 33.3 percent and 28.6 percent, respectively.
Despite the data depicting that elected positions have been a male-dominated field, the number of elected female officials have steadily increased since 2001."
